Maria Isabel studied Systems and Computer Engineering at the University of Los Andes, in Bogotá (Colombia), where she also did a specialization on Information Technologies Strategic Management. With over 30 years of experience in the field of Information and Communications Technologies, working in public entities, private companies and academia.
She was the coordinator of the Year 2000 (Y2K) project of Colombia, responsible for leading the actions required by the country to meet the millennium change. She coordinated the design and implementation of the risk mitigation plan required by both: the public and the private sector.
Between 2000 and 2006 became the Executive Director of Computers for Schools Program, designing promotional strategies, granting management, computer refurbishing and giving educational support, such Program benefits millions of poor children around the country nowadays.
In 2006, she was responsible for the design of the National e-Government Strategy, and was the Director of the Program until 2010. In this role María Isabel managed to position Colombia as the leader of the Latin American e-Government, and she also led the country to occupy the ninth place worldwide on e-Participation.
From 2010 to 2012, she was the General Manager of Marinas de Colombia, a Colombian company with foreign capital, responsible for the construction and execution of “Marina Puerto Velero”, the most complete and modern marina being built in the Colombian Caribbean.
She is currently the Deputy Minister of technologies and systems Information, a position from which she will play the role of Colombia’s CIO.
