As the New Zealand Government Chief Technology Officer, Tim Occleshaw leads the digital government team. With responsibility for developing the digital government 2027 strategy, the current Government ICT Strategy and integrated programme of work, digital service innovation and digital identity strategy Tim’s team is at the forefront of government’s digital transformation. Alongside re-imaging customer journeys and developing an innovation culture, the team manages critical components of the New Zealand government’s digital capabilities, architecture and infrastructure.

Tim’s portfolio also covers system-wide assurance leadership, Government Information Services, Government Chief Privacy Officer and the development and management of ICT Common Capability products and services across government. These are integral to managing investments and driving resilience and operating value across government agencies.

Tim is also Deputy Chief Executive, Service and System Transformation (SST) branch, at the Department of Internal Affairs, and he reports to Chief Executive and Government Chief Information Officer Colin MacDonald.

Before joining Internal Affairs in 2012, Tim spent four years with Inland Revenue as Deputy Commissioner, Information, Design and Systems. As Chief Information Officer at the Ministry of Social Development, Tim was recognised as New Zealand CIO of the Year in 2008.

Tim has more than 25 years’ experience in business, management and executive roles in the financial services sector in Australia and New Zealand.
