Jan has been involved in Information security and electronic identity issues since 1991. He has been part of the Government Information Security Agency from 1993 till 2000 as a special information security advisor to various government Ministries. From 2000 on he has been working on Public Key information, Citizens Electronic Identities for Egovernment purposes, and the Dutch PKI Government scheme.

Currently, he is a policy advisor at the Citizenship-and Information Policy Department of the Ministry.
